A Conversation with Jill, Psychotherapist & Hypnotherapist at Meadows Wellbeing One Treatment at a Time

There’s something powerful about sitting down with someone whose entire role is to help others better understand themselves. My recent conversation with Jill, an accredited psychotherapist and hypnotherapist at Meadows Wellbeing, did exactly that…

Jill brings a pluralistic approach to her work, meaning no two sessions are ever the same. Drawing from a wide range of therapies - including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), hypnotherapy, psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. She tailors each session to the individual. As she explained, “one size doesn’t fit all” when it comes to mental health.

What stood out immediately was her calm, grounded way of describing therapy. There’s often a misconception that therapy is about being told what to do, or having someone “fix” you. But Jill sees it very differently.

She described therapy as a space where you can finally pause, speak openly, and begin to understand the patterns behind your thoughts, emotions and behaviours. It’s about unlocking what’s already within you - something she truly believes every person possesses.

Understanding the Different Approaches

Part of our conversation was breaking down the different types of therapy.

Jill explained that psychotherapy allows you to go deeper - exploring rooted issues such as past experiences, childhood patterns, and what’s often referred to as “inner child” work.

In contrast, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is far more thought-driven. It works on the principle that what we think influences how we feel, and how we behave. By learning to challenge and change negative thought patterns, we can begin to take back control.

What makes Jill’s approach unique is how she delivers this. She moves away from traditional “sit and talk” therapy and instead uses more visual and practical techniques - helping clients detach from negative thoughts, almost as if they’re separate from who they are. It’s engaging, empowering, and for many people, far easier to connect with.

The Role of Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy is another area Jill specialises in, and one that often comes with a lot of curiosity.

She explained it in a way that instantly made sense. You’re not “asleep” or out of control — instead, you’re in a deeply relaxed state, still aware, but more open to positive suggestion.

It’s particularly effective for:

  • Anxiety and fears

  • Breaking habits

  • Changing negative thought patterns

In fact, Jill shared that something like smoking cessation can take as little as two sessions — because it’s often rooted in psychological patterns rather than physical need.

A Modern, Flexible Approach

Another refreshing aspect of Jill’s work is how she structures her sessions.

There’s no rigid commitment or drawn-out process. Anxiety-related issues can often be worked through in around four sessions, while deeper, more complex challenges may take longer (typically between six to twelve sessions).

It’s flexible, realistic, and designed to fit around the individual — not the other way around.

She also highlighted something that many people will relate to: the hardest step is simply reaching out. That first booking can feel like the biggest hurdle, which is why having an easy, accessible booking system is so important.

A Personal Reflection

What I didn’t expect from this conversation was how much it would make me reflect on my own life.

Listening to Jill talk about thought patterns, behaviours, and the way we process things made me realise there are definitely areas of my own mental health I’d like to understand better and handle differently.

In fact, by the end of our call, I had already booked my own CBT session.

And if I’m being honest… I’ll also be booking hypnotherapy to finally tackle my smoking habit  (something I’ve been putting off for far too long!)

Final Thoughts

Jill’s approach to therapy feels modern, practical and genuinely empowering. It’s not about labelling or overcomplicating things - it’s about giving you the tools, space and understanding to move forward in a way that works for you.

If you’ve ever considered therapy, or even just felt curious about how it could help, this might be your sign to take that first step.

Because sometimes, the smallest decision …like booking that first session… can be the start of something much bigger.
