One Treatment at a Time: My Journey Through Meadows Wellbeing

Hi, I’m Frankie, and I look after the marketing here at Meadows Wellbeing. But how can I truly share the magic of what Meadows Wellbeing offers if I’ve never experienced it myself?

So, over the coming months, I’ll be stepping out from behind my desk and into the treatment rooms at Meadows - one therapy at a time. As someone who’s often glued to a screen and guilty of forgetting to slow down, I’m on a journey to take a more mindful approach to my own health and wellbeing with an open mind.

Each month, I’ll be trying a different treatment and sharing my honest experience via the Meadows Wellbeing Newsletter and socials. About what it’s really like, what to expect as a first-time client, and how it leaves me feeling afterwards.

To start this journey, I met with Linda, one of Meadows’ experienced practitioners, for my very first Reflexology session…

Stepping Into Reflexology

This month, I got to try something I’d always been curious about: reflexology

Linda, one of the skilled practitioners at Meadows Wellbeing, welcomed me into her treatment room — and I have to admit, I was equal parts excited and anxious. Why? Well… feet. I have ridiculously ticklish feet, and I was convinced I’d twitch and squirm the entire session, and completely fail at relaxing. But, I was wrong!

From the moment I stepped into the room, a sense of calm washed over me. Linda’s warm, friendly, approachable manner instantly put me at ease. We started by reviewing the medical form I’d filled out before my visit and chatting about reflexology. How does it work? Why did she become a practitioner? And what reflexology could offer me! It turns out, Linda first experienced reflexology while pregnant with her first born, and seeing the huge difference it made sparked her curiosity and eventually led her to train professionally to help others.

My first tip for anyone trying reflexology? Fully immerse yourself in the experience! And be honest about your medical history as this really helps the practitioner tailor the session to you.

Linda explained how different parts of the foot correspond to organs and systems in the body. She can feel areas that are “blocked” and use specific pressures to help “unblock” them. As the session began, my feet were not ticklish at all! It was very relaxing, I kept my eyes closed, focused on my breathing, and paid close attention to how my body felt.

I suffer from psoriasis on my scalp, and interestingly during the session, as Linda worked on my feet, I could actually feel light tingles up into my head — almost like a head massage, even though it was all coming from my feet. It was a different sensation but felt really relaxing and I did not notice my psoriasis the whole session.

Linda also explained that everyone uses reflexology differently. Some people just enjoy a foot massage; others seek relief from physical pain, emotional stress, or even to help with labour. She pointed out how suppressed emotions can affect the body physically — for instance, anger is said to affect the liver, and reflexology can help release that tension.

What truly surprised me was an incident towards the end of the session when Linda inquired if I had pain in my left hip. This question immediately brought me back to a car accident I had some time ago. The seatbelt had injured my left hip, causing pain ever since. It was a memory I had subconsciously suppressed, learning to live with the discomfort as the demands of daily life took over, pushing that issue aside. I had never mentioned this injury on my initial form, nor had we discussed it during our session, making her ability to pinpoint and address that pain truly remarkable. She kindly gave different options to different practitioners within Meadows Wellbeing which might help with the injury.

I left feeling calm, relaxed, and reminded of just how important it is to take time for ourselves. Reflexology isn’t just a foot massage - it’s a holistic experience that connects body and mind, encourages relaxation, and helps release tension you didn’t even know you were holding.

If you’ve never tried reflexology before, I’d highly recommend giving it a go. Embrace the session, listen to your body, and see what works for you - everyone’s experience will be totally different. For me, it was eye-opening, relaxing, and honestly, a little magical knowing what our bodies are capable of.
